Energy Source Plus Caffeine is a High Energy Super Carbohydrate drink mix for maximum energy uptake and increased rehydration incorporating all of the benefits of EnergySource with Super Carbs and adding the benefits of caffeine to bring increased mental awareness and neuromuscular control.

A high Energy Super Carbohydrate drink mix for maximum energy and race performance. EnergySource is rapidly absorbed and highly stable in the stomach even during intense race effort. Its real citrus fruit flavour is easy to drink light to taste and neither too sweet or bitter.

The addition of the correct levels of Caffeine increases the effectiveness of EnergySource and used correctly this drink can genuinely enhance your sports performance.

When used correctly caffeine is one of the few legal substances that can increase sports performance and contrary to popular opinion at the correct levels needed to boost sports performance caffeine does not cause dehydration but does do the following:-

1. Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant which reduces tiredness and mental fatigue while at the same time increasing alertness and wakefulness. An enhanced central nervous system leads to improved motor co-ordination and reduced perception of fatigue and exertion rate.
2. Caffeine also increases muscle contractile strength through its influence on calcium ion release.
3. Caffeine reduces the glycogen breakdown rate in the muscles sparing muscle glycogen stores.
4. Caffeine enhances the uptake of carbohydrate from the small intestine. Studies show an increase in glucose absorption of 25%. This increase in available glucose spares muscle glycogen stores. With the added bonus that hydration is greatly improved.

Why not just drink Tea or Coffee?
Tea and coffee do not appear to give the same sports performance benefit as pure caffeine. Naturally occurring compounds in these drinks may interfere with the uptake and/or effects of caffeine in the body thereby reducing its effect.

Also the exact ammount of caffeine from any particular brand of tea or coffee is not known and some studies have shown that large amounts of caffeine (9mgs or more per kg of body weight) may actually be detrimental to performance in prolonged endurance events.

There is no real evidence to suggest you need to go through a Caffeine depletion phase to reap the benefits of EnergySource Plus.

How do you use EnergySource Plus Caffeine to increase your performance:-

Events less than 30 minutes Drink 750ml of High5 EnergySource Plus Caffeine 1 hour before the event. This will provide you with 225mg of caffeine. For a 75kg athlete this will equal 3mg/ kg body weight. Top up with a caffeine (Gel plus) which contains 30mg caffeine if you are heavier or drink slightly less if you are lighter.
Events of 30-60 minutes; Follow the same protocol
Events over 1 hour; - Follow the same protocol to load 1 hour before the event. During the event drink 500ml - 1.2lts of High5 EnergySource Plus per hour depending on the conditions to maintain the bodys caffeine levels you can also take 1 x EnergyGel Plus per hour with your drink.
If you really want to demonstrate to yourself how well caffeine works go on a long endurance ride until you feel fatigued then drink 750ml High5 EnergySource Plus Caffeine. Its a real eye opener.
